Abstract     Physical principles of the description of fluid flow through a system of pipes and some mechanical properties of the blood circulation are put forward. As an example, the velocity field of the model vertebro-basilar junction is presented. The influence of some geometrical parameters on the blood flow and on the development of atherosclerotic changes is shown, proving thereby the importance of studying the biomechanical properties of the cardiovascular system in optimization of the treatment of the disorders of this system.
Summary     Predstavljene so fizikalne osnove opisa pretakanja tekočine po sistemu cevi in nekatere mehanske lastnosti pretakanja krvi po žilah. Kot primer je prikazano hitrostno polje toka skozi model vertebro-bazilarnega stika. PredstavIjen je vpliv nekaterih geometrijskih parametrov na tok krvi in s tem na nastajanje aterosklerotičnih sprememb, kar utemeljuje pomen študija biomehanskih lastnosti srca, ožilja in krvi pri načrtovanju najboljšega načina zdravljenja bolezni tega sistema.
