Abstract | The first part of present inquiry entitled Natural Environmnet as a Factor of Development evaluates methods of habitat mapping for their potential use in a process of landscape and regional planning. Comparisson between usual and more advanced planning methods reveales imperfections of simple habitat mapping. Inventory maps of existing habitats can be used in a process of landscape planning only when raw data are properly interpreted and evaluated. Complexity of habitats can not be expressed through common two dimensional maps. Habitats are often a result of complex relationships among many spatial and other biotic factors. There are also differences between commonly used categorization of existing land covers applied either from the biologist's or planner's point of view respectively. Therefore the purpose of possible use of habitat maps defines their form. When habitat mapping is used to search for congruent distribution of uses, habitat maps must enter much more complex planning process. Present research emphasizes, that different simulation models (vulnerability, attractiveness and feasibility models) must be used in order to conduct further spatial development which should preserve valuable and endangered habitats. For this purpose, habitat maps must be enriched with knowledge of parameters for qualitative living conditions of various species or "potential habitats parameters". | |
