Abstract     Higher plants and fungi are able to establish mycorrhizal symbiosis between them. Highbush blueberry has ericoid mycorrhiza. Blueberry varieties Jersey and Blueray were inoculated with ericoid fungus Oidiodendron rhodogenum and Oidiodendron griseum which had been isolated from roots of highbush blueberry plant from the marshy area called Ljubljansko Barje. Mycorrhizal inoculum grew on vermiculit and peat soaked with liquid nutrient medium. Inoculum was added to plants during the first transplantation. The influence of fungi on mineral and water absorbtion, on the protection against patogenic microorganisms and on tolerance in stress situations was expressed in better growth and branching of shoots, larger leaf area and leaf dry matter. Biotechnological methods of inoculation with mycorrhiza are very useful in nurseries and represent the basis of sustainable agriculture.
