Abstract		We prepared the pilot study of the cost of traffic accidents on the main road between Ljubljana and Maribor - the section Domžale - Želodnik - Trojane (24.895 Km) for the year 1996. We made this work on the suggestion of the Council for prevention and education in the traffic and in the colaboration with the department of traumatology in Ljubljana, the traffic police and the insurance company Triglav. For this time we found on this section 263 traffic accidents, in which one person died and 93 persons were injured. We tried to find out the social damage by means of the study of the medical records and of the compensation demands to the insurance company. We considered the age and sex of the injured, the types of injuries, the way and the time of the treatment in the hospital, the number of medical examinations, the lenght of work absence and the degree of disability. To the expences we also added the cost of the material damage.
