Abstract     The use of the generalised entropy measures as a criterion for image thresholding is proposed. Brink's thresholding method (14) was implemented using the Shannon's entropy, as it was originally proposed, and using Taneja's two-parametric generalised entropy. On several object extraction problems the superiority of the use of the Taneja's over the Shannon's entropy is demonstrated.
