Abstract     X-ray contrast examinations of urinary tract and especially intravenous urography (i.v.u.), together with other diagnostic modalities, can play an important role in early detection of bladder tumors and other causes of hematuria, in detection of recurrence of tumors after therapy, corrective operations and urinary diversions. With intravenous urography we can detect bladder tumors directy or indirectly, depending on size, shape and position of tumors. Results are also depending on examination technique. Reported sensitivity of intravenous urography is 92%. Once again we would like to stress out the important role of intravenous urography because its ability to detaile whole urinary sistem, which is important especialy: 1. in patients with bladdr tumors, where evaluation of the synchroneus upper urinary tract lesions is important, 2 in patients with gross hematuria, where exclussion of the great number of other nontumoral causes of hematuria is possible (stones, papillary necrosis, infarct, inflamations), 3. in patients after operations and also after corrective operations and urinary diversions, where recurrence of tumors locally or in the upper urinary tract is possible. After a brief review of etiology, patohistology of bladder tumors and tumors of the urethra, different diagnostic modalities and their results, we present punlished and our oppinions and suggestions of different diagnostic approaches in symptomatic and asymptomatic patients.
