Abstract     The system for forecasting the children's ability in running on 60m, 300m and 1200m is developed in this paper. The goal of such a system is to help children orienting to those sports which are well suited to their characteristics, abilities and interests. The methods used are a linear regression, neural networks and genetic algorithms. The best results were obtained by using genetic algorithms for the selection of informative wariables and a linear regression for the modeling purpose. With a proper selectionof input variables the system with generalization ability was developed.
