Abstract     For penicillin-allergic patients, erythromycin has long been a good alternative in the treatment of streptococcal infections. Resistance to this antibiotic is a serious problem for this group of patients. The aim of this study was to present evolution of resistance to erythromycin in strains of group G beta-hemolytic streptococci isolated in Pomurje, Slovenia. In 1994, the frequency of strains which were resistant to erythromycin was 15,4%, two years later the frequency has risen to 52,7%. Resistance to erythromycin in other groups of beta-hemolytic streptococci in the same period was rare.
