Abstract     A young dog nine-month-old male American Stafford Terrier was hospitalized in our clinic after months unsuccessful treatment for respiratory disease characterized by outbreak of sneezing and dyspnoea. Dyspnoea, fever, depression and dehydration were established clinically. Blood sample showed anemia and leukocytosis. Radiography revealed bilateral liquidothorax. With ultrasound liquid and pericardial and pleural thickening were established. Bilateral surgical drainage was done. The diagnosis was made by isolation of the organisms Nocardia species after surgical drainage when appropriate tissues were cultured. The response to surgical drainage and sulfonamides therapy was successful. Against this the owner decided for euthanasia. Post mortem examination releaved macroscopic lesions which included fibrinopurulent and hemorrhagic plevritis with pale yellow granules, thick and granulomatous mediastinum and partial pulmonal atelectasis. Aerobic culture of exudate, yellow granules and lung tissue were done on blood agar and Sabouraud-dextrose agar. Organisms from exudate and agar colonies were Gram and acid-fast positive. Differentiation between Nocardia species was not done. We propose that N. asteroides or N. caviae be cause of these pleuritis.
