Abstract     According to the data of the recent 5 years salmonellae are the main cause and Salmonella enteritidis the most frequent causative bacterial agent of foodborne infections in Slovenia. In our report we present the number of foodborne infections, notified in the last eight years. As the number of salmonelae detected in food is increasing in last years, we present the number and strains of isolated salmonellae together with hygienic and epidemiological problems. Proposed preventive measures could be helpful to reduce the presence of salmonellae in food, especially that of animal origine and decrease the incidence of salmonella infections related to foods.
