Abstract     In 1997 and 1998 the microbiological quality of food in production and in retail was examined. Among other microbiological parameters the presence of Escherichia coli was examined too. All isolated strains were stored and afterwards tested by the procedure of reverse passive latex agglutination on the presence of verotoxins (VTEC-RPLA, Oxid). The sorts of food, testing procedures and the presence of Escherichia coli are presented in our results. In totally 125 strains Escherichia coli isolated from food samples we didn't established the presence of verocytotoxins by the test VTEC-RPLA.
