Abstract     The micropropagation of the late maturing cultivar of garlic Allium sativum L.cv. Ptujski pomladanski was studied. it was compared with the early maturing cultivar Ptujski jesenski. B5 medium with 5 micro M 2iP and 5 micro M jA was used for shoot induction on isolated basal plates of cloves. The number of regenerated shoots was higher in cv. P. pomladanski (15 shoots per one basal plate) than cv. P. jesenski (12-13 shoots per one basal plate). Transfer to media without growth regulatiors and with 6 or 8% sucrose resulted in bulb formation. After twelve weeks in culture 14-18 bulbs formed on each basal plate. The percentage of shoots that formed bulbs was lower in cv. P. pomladanski than cv. P. jesenski. There was a significantly higher bulb diameter in cv. P. pomladanski in comparison with P. jesenski, regardless of the sucrose concentration. Bulbs successfully germinated and developed to plantles on the B5 medium with 3% sucrose and grew to maturity in the soil. The described procedure can be used for efficient micropropagation of the seed garlic Allium sativum L.cv. Ptujski pomladanski.
