Abstract     Delection of plant pathogenic bacteria with modern techniques does not have a long tradition in Slovenia. However, during last few years, we succeeded in developing procedures for testing of important quarantine bacteria, causal agents of diseases: potato brown rot, potato ring rot and bacterial fire blight. These bacteria are present in some parts of Europe, while they were never found in Slovenia. They have important impact on plant production of potato and fruit trees. In order to prevent the introduction of bacteria in form of latent infections, hosts of mentioned bacteria: imported seed and ware potato as well as fruit and ornamental trees, is important to test. In latent infections symptoms of infections are usually not present and concentration of bacteria in plant tissue is very low. Therefore the use of sensitive techniques like serology in combination with conventional semiselective media plaiting is needed. PCR technique was introduced for Ealstonia solanacearum, causal agents of potato brown rot, for identification in pure culture or in plant extracts, as confirmation or rejection test. Whole testing scheme for Ralstonia solanacearum is also described.
