Abstract     Liver transplantation is the therapy of end stage liver disease. In the western world it is supported by all means, professional, organizational and financial. The following presentation is designed first to present the present status of liver transplantation in Slovenia. The second aim is to discuss important clinico-pathological issues in the process of liver transplantation. Biopsy must support every clinical problem. Histological examination is one of the crucial points in the final selection of the donor organ. During the early posttransplantation period the histological findings could be helpful in differentiating early complications. Therapy of an acute or chronic rejection depends on histologic examination and the disease recurrence should be detected and confirmed by biopsy.
