Abstract     Pollen of two of the wind pollinated species from the Asteraceae family, Common Ragweed (Abrosia aftermisiifolia L.) and Mugqort (Artemisia vulgaris L.) was airborne in August in Ljubljana. Mugwort is indigenous species in Slovenia. Common ragweed has been introduced since the end of the second world war. The first record of Common Ragween in Ljubljana dated back to 1961. The ragweed pollen season started at the beginning of the second decade of August (11 August) similar as in 1996 and 1997. The peak count is registered on 26 August. This concentrationis the highest in the last three years. In August 15,3% of all airborne pollen belongs to Ambrosia. Mugwort pollen is also very important from the allergological point of view. In years 1996, 1997 and 1998 the highest daily counts were registered from the end of the first decade to the end of the second decade of August (Figure 5.2). The peak concentration was reached on 9 August, 75 pollen grains/m3. The pollen of Nettle family is the most abudant aiborne pollen in August (Table 5.1.) 44% of all airborne pollen belongs to Nettle family in this period. In August, pollen of grass, Chenopodiaceae family and Plantain was also present in small amounts in the air (Table 5.1.).
