Abstract     Recent advances in technology of antenatal diagnosis have enabled precise examination of fetuses and have redirected the goals of obstetrics from primary care for mothers and newborn infants during labor and delivery to early detection and treatment of abnormal fetuses. The implementation of these techniques raises several ethical dilemmas: the woman's ethical and legal rights for termination of pegnancy in the case of abnormal fetus, the ethical aspect of selctive abortion of the malformed fetus in multiple pregnancy, conflict of interests between mother and her fetus in case of her hazardous behavior or if she refuses diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures that may potentially benefit fetal well - being. In the article, basic ethical consideration helping the practitioners in their decisions when supporting the best interest of the mother and her fetus, are described
Summary     Nove preiskovalne metode so v zadnjih dveh desetletjih omogočile natančen pregled ploda in preusmerile porodništvo v odkrivanje in zdravljenje bolezni nerojenega otroka.
