Abstract     The present epidemiological study was designed to estimate the trend of periodontal disease among residents of Ljubljana aged 15 to 65 years. Out of 1609 dentate subjects seen in the period 1983-1987, a total of 538 dentate individuals were re-examined 10 years later, in the period 1993-1997. In both surveys, the CPITN methodology was used. The results of the second survey showed increased proportions of subjects with dental calculus in the age group 15-25 years, moderate periodontal pockets (4-5 mm) in the age group 35-45 years, and deep periodontal pockets (6 mm or more) in the older age groups. The prevalence rates of advanced periodontal disease in individual age groups. The prevalence rates of advanced periodontal disease in individual age groups were similar in both surveys. In the second survey, as compared to the first one, a slightly greater proportion of subjects had healthy periodontal tissues at 25 and 35 years of age, moderate periodontal pockets were slightly more common at 25, 35, 45 and 65 years of age, while deep pockets were somewhat more frequent at age 55.
