Abstract     Cardiovascular disease is a major problem in diabetics because its incidence is much higher and its prognosis much worse than in noncommon cause of death in diabetics; and , to draw attention to this fact, Fisher has suggested than diabetes can be considered as "a state of premature cardiovascular death associated with chronic hyperglycemia and sometimes also with blindness and renal failure" (1). The Lancet has recently shown the importance it attaches to the subject by devoting a supplement to "Diabetes and the Heart" (2). Thus the management (prevention, evaluation and treatment) of cardiovascular disease in diabetics is very important. In this lecture I will be focusing mainly on hypertension, myocardinal infarction, and ischemic heart disease; and will be reviewing 3 trials we Koeping have recently been involved with: CAPPP in hypertension (3), DIGAMI in myocardinal infraction (4), and 4S in post-MI and angina patients(5,6).
