| Abstract | We describe the upgrade and the performance of a second-hand apparatus for positron emission tomography (PET), at present the only existing PET system in Slovenia. A novel readout system has been designed and assembled with electonic modules obtained from the particle physics laboratory at the Jozef Stefan Institute. The entire system, including the computer programs for data acquision and image reconstruction, has been tested with point sources, phantoms and on guinea pigs. Results of these tests should permit an evaluation of the clinical potentials of the apparatus. | |
