Abstract		New recommendations for the prevention of infective endocarditis were approved by the American Heart Association in October 1996, and published in the June 1997 issue of the JAMA. This paper presents only the recommendations for dental and oral procedures. They are addressed to dental practitioners, who in the course of their daily work encounter cardiac patients at risk of developing this potentially life-threatening condition.
