Abstract		Aspiration thin needle biopsy of the lung and mediastinum has proved a reliable, safe, practical and inexpensive procedure, which can largely replace other more aggresive and costly diagnostic modalities. It shortens the overall diagnostic process and increases the percentage of operable patients,especially those with lung cancer. Malignant tumours were found in 1,255 of the 2,036 cases evaluated by aspiration needle biopsy. Its overall sensitivity rate was 96.1%, and it yielded no false-positive results. The indications for the procedure are liberal and the complications tolerable.
Summary		Biopsija pljučnih sprememb in tumorjev mediastinuma s tanko iglo se je izkazala za zanesljivo, varno, praktično in ceneno diagnostično metodo, ki v precejšnji meri nadomesti invazivnejše in bolj boleče posege, skrajša čas diagnostičnega postopka ter zveča odstotek operabilnosti, zlasti pljučnega raka. Z 2036 pljučnimi aspiracijskimi punkcijami smo diagnosticirali 1255 malignih tumorjev z 96,1-odstotno senzitivnostjo brez ene same napačno pozitivne diagnoze. Indikacije so široke, kontraindikacij je malo, zapleti pa znosni.
