Abstract     From 1990 to 1995, in an anthropometrical longitudinal study, wew followed growth and development in 73 Ljubljana children aged from 10 to 14 years. Measurements were taken at two-year intervals. We studied the growth and developmental tendencies of body height, weight, and body mass index. By Slaughter's regression analysis we analyzed the two-component body composition and, using Frisancho's method, we evaluated the development of muscle and fat mass by anthropometry. We determined sex specific developmental trends. Girls are characterized by a more intensive development between the 10th and 12th year, while in boys this occurs between the 12th and 14th year. Twelve-year0old girls are ahead of boys in all variables except Lbm, which, at all ages, is higher in boys. With increasing age, the percentage of overweight children decreases. This is particularly noticeable in girls. In boys, there is an intense increase of Lbm while Fm remains almost unchanged. In girls, both component are equally represented in the body mass. The increased upper arm circumference in boys is due to the increased Uma, while in girls Uma and Ufa increase proportionaly.
