Abstract     Aluminium has a toxic effect on the plants and fungi. The aim of our experiment was to discover if the presence of aluminium influences the growth of fungi Aspergillus, especially their production and excretion of the citric acid, which is one of the primary products of the Aspergillus niger. Five different Aspergillus fungi were used: Aspergillus niger (citric acid strain), Aspergillus niger (lipolytic strain), Aspergillus foetidus, Aspergillus awamori and Aspergillus wenfii. Radial growth of the fungi was examined on the solid medium M-40 with different amounts of AI3+ (0,2 mM,1 mM, 2 mM,10 mM, 20 mM), added as AI2(SO4)3 .18H20. The trials have shown, that AI3+ inhibited growth of the Aspergillus niger (citric acid strain), Aspergillus niger (lipolytic strain) and Aspergillus foetidus, but did not have any influence on the Aspergillus awamori. Growth of the Aspergillus wentii on the medium with added AI3+ in high concentrations was particularly inhibited. Fungi were grown on the medium M-40 and CDM (chemically defined medium), with different AI3+ and then the intracellular and extracellular concentrations of citric acid were colorimetrically measured. AI3+, added to the medium M-40, stimulated accumulation of citric acid in the mycelium of Aspergillus niger (citric acid strain), Aspergillus niger (lipolytic strain) and Aspergillus foetidus, when on the medium with AI in high concentrations, the concentrations of citric acid decreased in the mycelium of Aspergillus awamori and Aspergillus wentii. The extracellular concentrations of citric acid in the mycelium of the Aspergillus foetidus increased, if the 0,2-20 mM AI3+ was added to the medium M-40, in the mediums with AI3+ in higher concentrations decreased, but were still much higher than the concentrations of citric acid in the medium of the other fungi.
