Abstract     Singing cicadas have loud, species specific songs, thus it is possible to detect and identify them simply by listening, or better still by recording and analyzing their sounds. In Slovenia there are at least 9 species: Cicada orni, Lyristes plebejus, Tibicina haematodes, Cicadatra atra, Tettigetta argentata, T. dimissa, T. brullei, Cicadetta tibialis, and C. montana. It is still not clear why C. montana here sings with two distinct patterns. Cicadetta mediterranea has been found in Istria not very far from the Slovenian border. We present oscillograms and sonagrams of these songs, and samples on CDs are also available on request.
