Abstract     Echocardiography has become an established and powerful tool for the diagnosing the presence of coronary artery disease and defining its consequences in patients with acute coronary syndromes and those with chronic coronary atherosclerosis. Transthoracic imaging and Doppler technique are useful for evaluating patients with suspected or documented coronary artery disease. Stress echocardiography is useful for evaluating the presence, location and severity of inducible myocardial ischemia, myocardial viability as well as risk stratification and prognostication. In this review article the role of echocardiography in coronary artery disease is discussed.
