Abstract     Nicorandil is the drug marketed for the long-term treatment of angina pectoris. Nicorandil combines the properties of an organic nitrate with those of potassium-channel activator, causing dilation of coronary arteries and arterioles, systemic resistance vessels and veins. The principal side effect is mild to moderate headache. The main indication for the use of nicorandil is slable angina pectoris, providing an alternative or addition to the conventional therapy.
