Abstract     A lecture on roentgen rays discovery by prof. dr. Petar Salcher from Rijeka Military Naval Academy is reported. The lecture was held at the Natural Sciences Club on February 20 th 1896, not a full month after the Roentgen's lecture had been held Wuertzburg on January 23 rd 1896. Two experiments, carried out by prof. dr. Salcher in the same day have been described, when the first X-rays of the hand skeleton and coins showing visible inscription "ROENTGEN" were made. He suggested the members of the Natural Sciences Club to purchase the X-ray apparatus. His proposal became reality and the apparatus was bought in Chemnitz, 1897. It was the first roentgen apparatus in Croatia, thus denoting the commencement of radiology in Croatia. Other Croatian towns followed Rijeka in X-ray apparatus purchase: Ogulin and Srijemska Mitrovica,1898; Zagreb,1901; Lepoglava,1904; Bjelovar,1905; Varaždin, Karlovac, Nova Gradiška and Vinkovci, 1911; Sisak, 1912.
