Abstract     The first part of this work approaches the importance of the eyes and vision from the practical and metaphorical standpoint. Healthy eyes and good vision anticipate success and quality of life - the ability to acquire knowledge, and active work. Eye diseases and blindness are complete opposites of that. A number of traditional attitudes, thoughts, proverbs and sayings from our region, from antique to autochthonous times are stated as an illustration. The second part gives examples of eye illnesses and the methods of treatment according to the Old and New Testament, with especially impressive examples when Jesus Christ cured the blind. The analysis of traditional ophthalmologic problems follows, with examples of empirical and magical approaches to treatment. Described in the third part is the cult of Saint Lucia, the patron of the eyes and vision in the Christian tradition.
