Abstract		Diseases and abnormalities of the spinal canal in children are from the neurosurgical point of view a not very common occurrence. The pediatrician is usually confronted with three different clinical problems in his/her everyday practice. These are congenital malformations, expanding lesions of the spinal canal and vertehral or spinal cord injuries. Each particular subject is presented and discussed. Only the teamwork of pediatricians and neurosurgeons can bring about an acceptable outcome of treatment which should be carried out within the hospital premises, sometimes even in the intensive care unit. Apart from various medical procedures, rehabilitation is an important part of the management of any of the vertebral or spinal cord abnormalities which reyuire neurosurgical care.
Summary		Bolezni in nepravilnosti spinalnega kanala v otroštvu so z vidika nevrokirurga precej redke. Pediatri se v vsakdanji praksi ponavadi soočajo s tremi glavnimi kliničnimi težavami tega področja: prirojene nepravilnosti, tumorji in poškodbe hrbtenjače ali vretenc. Pričujoči članek obravnava vsako težavo posebej. Samo skupinska obravnava pe- diatrov in nevrokirurgov lahko omogoča zadovoljiv izid operacije, ki jo je vedno treba opraviti v specializirani bolnišnici ali celo na enoti za intenzivno zdravljenje. Poleg številnih (nekirurških) postopkov je rehabilitacija pomemben del obravnave katerekoli nepravilnosti hrbtenjače ali vretenc, ki terjajo nevrokirurško operacijo.
