Abstract		One month after injury we removed from the eye metalic foreign body which measured 9 X 8 mm. The foreign body had a large smooth surface, which markedly reflected ultrasound. Therefore it was interpreted in other institution as retinal detachment. Plain film and CT clearly showed the dimensions and location of the foreign body.We performed pars plana vitrectomy and remowed it through 1 cm long incision in the pars plana area 4 mm from limbus. During the extraction the globe was stabilized by perfluorocaron liquid which was later exchanged with silicon oil. During vitrectomy we noticed the formation of cataracts whic nearly completely cleared during the procedure.
