Abstract     We describe a new cataract extraction technique that we believe is a step forward in safety and efficiency from chopping techniques. When chopping the nucleus the chopper is pulled from the equator of the lens toward the center splitting it into two halves. This is a cutting action. To engage the nucleus at the equator the chopper has to be brought under the edge of the rhexis. In Phaco Crack technique the phaco tip is introduced directly into the center of the nucleus with the help of the ultrasound. Due to ultrasound shock waves and the anatomy of the lens, initial fissures are created in front of the phaco tip. While holding the nucleus with the phaco tip, the cracker is pushed downwards in to the nucleus 0,5 mm in front of the phaco tip. By pushing the cracker down and pulling both instruments to the side, the initial fissures are enlarged and splitting of the nucleus extends from this point downwards and to the periphery.
