Abstract     Solid food introduction includes all food given to the infant in addition milk. Its aim is gradual weaning, adapting the infant to the adult diet and particulary meeting its nutrition requirements at an age when the milk diet no longer suffices to cover the needs of rapidly growing organism's metabolism. Solid food is not introduced before three months of age and not later than six months, but ordinarily afer the age of four months. Fruit juice is given at first, followed by fruit and vegetable pap, then gluten-free cereal-milk mush, meat, fish, and egg yolk. In this way three milk meals are substituted by thick nonmilk food by the end of nine months of age. Cereals containing gluten are only added after the six months, egg white after the ninth month. Due to its great calcium requirements, the infant needs at least 500 ml of milk per day after the age of six months.
