Abstract		Data on incidence of groin hernias, number of operations per 100.000 inhabitants in Gritain, Germany, the USA and Slovenia, as well as calculated costs for different of hernia treatment are presented. Indication for surgery, choice of operative method with few complications and recurrencies, short hospitalisation and patient's quick return to normal life depend on the surgeon, thus the importance of surgeon's influence onthe total cost of hernia repair is stressed.
