Abstract     The aim of this was to analyze the nutritional status of fifty-six hemodialysis patients treated in one center to estimate the value of different clinical diagnostic assays, alone or in combinations with laboratory tests. During a period of one year arm muscle circumference (AMC), body mass index (IBMI), and body weight of ideal body weitht (BW of IBW) were measured for four times. In the same period, analysis of serum albumin, serum prealbumin, transferrin, and cholesterol concentrations was performed. Adequancy of hemodialysis treatment was measured by Kt.V and protein catabolic rate (PCR). Moderate malnutrition according to the anthropometric measurements was found in 12 patients. Laboratory tests were normal and there was no statistically significant difference between that group and the group of patients with normal nutritional status with regard to anhropometric data. The changes inbody composition in patients with uremia complicate the imterpretation of anthropometric measures. The laboratory tests are more useful, especially when comined with ahtropometric methods.
