Abstract     The concept of libidinal economy through which Freud interpreted both energetic processes in psychic experience of pleasure or displeasure and different pathological phenomens (neurosisses, psychosisses), has almost been lost in the deluge of noumerous theories. However, those of us, who enthusiasticly swear by Freud, argue that this concept is indeed of the immense theoretical application - not only in psychology but also in sociology. In the present essay the investment model of libidinal energy is applyed, while interpreting the motivational and sociological in sport. The basis of this inventive theory is a process of condensation, as well as of displacement, which Freud both had already presented in his The Interpretation of Dreams. This theory then explains the aetiology of sports plesure, and also suggests implicitly the basic gendered distinctions in how one experiences the events in sport.
