Abstract     Scientific approach to formulation design through useage of experimental design and artifitial intelligence (computer moddeling and artifitial neural network) on one side and modern analytical methods on the other has predominated in past ten years. Modern development of new dosage form or new generic formulation is based one side on implementing knowledge from other scientific disciplines (physical chemistry, physiology, biopharmacy, etc.) and exploitation possibilities of evaluation of technological research and development results through modern analytical methods and instrumentation. Numerous analytical methods, which were few years ago either in formulation development. New spectroscopic and separation methods are more and more used in characterisation of pharmaceutical raw materials and products. The role of some analytical methods (e.g. thermal methods) has significantly changed during past years. On the other hand are numerous innovations and improvements in some analytical methods more and more used, specialy at methods of characterisation of drug and excipient particles.
