Abstract     The role of nurses and MT's during resuscitation procedures is described for three differntsituations: in a team lead by a doctor, as a leader of reanimation crew and in a case of autonomous resuscitation. Their role within the resuscitation crew has been defined and has not significantly changed for a considrate period of time. The differences occurred in two other situations: when nurse and MT's can perofrm intubation and external defibrillation using an automatic defibrillator after taking an appropriate training course. This allows for a fourfold increase of survival rate in the patients suffering from a primary cardiac arrest or ventricular fibrillation. A new algoritm for the use of semi-automatic and automatic defibrillators, together with learning and training techniques is also introduced.
