Abstract     The treatment of ethmoiditis and its complications in children must be directed to drainage of the affected area and against the causative pathogen. When conservative treatment does not improve the condition in short time, prompt surgical intervention is indicated. The time, type and extent of surgery must be determined on the basis of critical evaluation of the local and general status, including CT and US studies. At the ENT Department of the University Medical Centre Ljubljana, 59 children were treated for acute ethmoiditis in the period 1988-1997; 51 patients were cured by conservative therapy and eight underwent endoscopic operations. The advantage of endoscopic surgery include conservative, minimally invasive and functional access, while its disadvantage is the tecnical difficulty of the procedure due to the anatomical situation and the presence of acute inflammation.
