Abstract     Early detection of brain lesions in infants may enable to perform habilitation procedures in order to prevent serious and often irreperable speech disorder. Longterm observations indicate the importance of neuroanatomical and neurophysiological escorting. In 30 infants, both sexes up to their second year of age, suffering from perinatal brain lesions were tested for psychomotor abilities and vocalization along with performing logopeding treatment. With respect to the speech development and critical vocalization was pointed out. A delay in most syllables was observed. The conclusion of this study is, that propriate habilitation procedures in brain lesioned infants have to be applied from very early neonate up to maximal succes in order to compensate impaired brain functions, responsible for speech development.
