Abstract     Opinions on use of mouthguard vital bleaching are still divided, because some adverse affect are not clear yet. Effects on micromechanical, structural and chemical properties of enamel and dentine shown in literature are contraversal. These properties differs on different teeth, as well from enamel surface towards dentino-enamel junction (DEJ) and DEJ towards incisal edge of the same tooth. Adverse effects of 10% carbamide peroxide on extracted were researched in such a manner that control and test sides were located on the same tooth. Longitudinally sectioned samples were obtained from each tooth and Vickers microhardness of dentine and enamel was measured. Enamel structure was analysed in electron microscope (SEM) and subjected to linear X-ray electron spectroscopy for chemical analisys of Ca and P. Content of Ca in used bleaching gel was measured spectrofotometrically and content of P was measured fotometrically. Microwedging of bleached teeth was used to establish the quantity of emerged minerals from enamel to bleaching gel. All methods except Vickers microhardness and measuring the quantity of Ca and P in used bleaching gel were not used in previous research. Results showed that bleaching gel of 10% Carbamide peroxide was not affecting significantly the microharness of enamel and dentine. SEM analisys showed changes in enamel structure similar to those of initial caries. Linear X-ray electron spectroscopy showed lowered concentrations of Ca and P on test sides of the teeth. Ca/P ratio was also lower on the test sides. A content of Ca and P was shown in used bleaching gel. Microwedging was shown as unappropriate method for measuring the emerge of minerals from enamel during bleaching. Author concluded that 10% carbamide peroxide is causing microstructural and chemical changes in enamel.
