| Abstract | The author offers an overview of recent hypothetical theories on the all-encompassing systemic and process background of awareness at the level of brain centres and their links as explored by cognitive neuroscience (without touching upon the rival complementary theories on the more profound quantum background of awareness). He continues by discussing the fascinating if not astinishing manifestations of neurological disturbances. These point to the fact that awareness is relatively autonomous, to the existence of neurophysiological correlates of awereness and the connection between awareness and the subconscious. | |
