Abstract     Calcium antagonists are an important group of drugs for the reatment of cardiovascular diseases. They inhibit normal transmembrane influx of calcium through the L-type calcium channels, dependent on which are the contraction of the smooth muscle cells, myocardial cells, and the formation of impulses. In this way calcium antagonists cause systemic and coronary vasodilation, reduce the contractility of the myocardium and the formation of impulses. Consequently they may be used for the treatment of hypertension, ischemic heart disease and certain types of arrhythmia. Hypertension is the disease in which calcium antagonists are most widely and frequently used. The present article deals with the polemics concerning use of calcium antagonists.
Summary     Kalcijevi antagonisti so pomembna skupina zdravil za zdravljenje kardiovaskularnih obolenj. V članku so obravnavane polemike o uporabi kalcijevih antagonistov.
