Abstract		The author deals with a number of basic views pertaing to old age, ageing, psychological development of the elderly and their position in society. Next, she examines the importance of knowledge and learning in the elderly. moreover, she considers the right of the elderly to continue their life, dwelling upon their developmental potentials. The author suggests society should not be responsible for active ageing of the elderly. Society should, on the contrary, undertake the process of transforming attitudes of other generations and of the elderly themselves towards, ageing and the elderly. This alone would enable old age to be and remain "active". Finally, the author introduces the development of the third age universities in Slovenia.
Summary		Avtorica obravnava nekatere temeljne poglede na starost in staranje ter psihološki in družbeni položaj starejših. Preuči tudi pomen znanj za starejše. posebej poudari pravico starejših do nadaljenja življenja in njihove razvojne možnosti. Družba naj tako ne nareduke dejavne starosti, marveč naj skrbi za spreminjanje stališč pri drugih rodovih in starejših smih do tega obdobja in za boljše poznavanje starosti, staranja in starejših. To bo tudi samo zase podlaga za uveljavljanje pravice starejših do nadaljevanja življenja. Če bo temu tako, ne bo potrebno ustvarjati posebnih pogojev za dejavno starost. Avtorica predstavi tudi razvoj univerze za tretje življenjsko obdobje v Sloveniji.
