Abstract		Botulinum toxin is used for treatment of hyperactive muscle disorders, the main indications being dystonia and spasticity. When injected the hyperactive muscle becomes denervated for a period of 8-10 weeks. The aims of treatment are set by a team of a doctor, physiotherapist and occupational therapist: to relieve and remove the pain, to improve posture or gait and function, minimising dyskinesia. main advantages and major drawbacks of botulinum treatment are listed.
