Abstract     The author envisions in her paper the development of physiotherapy in Slovenia. Steps, guidelines and necessary conditions for the achievement of set objectives are elaborated and argued upon. The status of physiotherapy within Slovenian health care is assessed, and hindrances preventing faster implementation of designed projects are presented. Resistance to new developments and persisting to fixed behavioural patterns, which both imply a high stage of functional illiteracy, are stated to be still the principal reason for the existing state of affairs. The author is aware that developing and assuring quality of work and relations in physiotherapy are in close connection with high professional skills of physiotherapists and with the attitude of physiotherapists toward themselves, their coworkers and patients.
