Abstract     Background. In this review, some new findings regarding the development and progress of the epithelial ovarian cancer are presented. In the mechanism of malignant transformation, the minimal gentic changes of specific chromosomes are involved, this may lead to the altered expression of certain oncogenes and tumor-suppressor genes. During the progress of the disease the number of genetic alterations increases, what results in a higher agressiveness of the tumor. Conclusions. In this article the clinical consequences of the altered expression of certain oncogenes and tumor-suppressor genes are presented, as well as their influence on the prognosis of the patients with ovarian carcinoma.
Summary     Izhodišča. V preglednem članku so prikazana nekatera nova spoznanja o nastanku in napredovanju karcinoma jajčnika. V mehanizem maligne preobrazbe so vpletene minimalne genetske spremembe specifičnih kromosomov, kar vodi v spremenjeno aktivnost določenih onkogenov in tumorskih supresorskih genov.
