Abstract     In a group of 96 children, age 0 - 19 month, with congenital heart defect with left to right shunt (intracardial left to right shunt: atrium septum defect, ventriculum septum defect; extracardial left to right shunt: ductus arteriosus persistens) and in a group of 98 healthy children, age 0 - 19 month, stroke volume, cardiac output, thoracic fluid index, ejection velocity index and ventricular ejection time were measured by thoracic electrical bioimpedance, electrical impedance cardiography. The results were also used to calculate cardiac index, index of contractility and systemic vascular resistance index. Measurements were carried out by NCCOM3 BoMed Medical Manufacturing Ltd., Irvine, CA, system. The results of the measurements and calculations in a group of children with congenital heart defect with left to right shunt showed greater stroke volume values (P<0.0005), cardiac output (P<0.01), cardiac index (P<0.0005), systemic vascular resistance index (P<0.0005) and lower values of thoracic fluid index (P<0.0005) and ejection velocity index (P<0.0005) in comparison with the group of healthy children. There were no differences in values for ventricular ejection time (2P>0.10) and index of contractility (2P>0.10) between the two groups. Using the results of thoracic electrical bioimpedance measurements, the normative values for parameters of cardiac haemodynamics for healthy children, age 0 - 19 month, were calculated.
