Abstract     Symptoms of dementia and depression that are the most frequent diseases in the elderly, often overlap. Successful differentiation between old age depression and early stages of dementia is not simple but is very important in order to determine appropriate treatment on time. Patients with depressive pseudodementia often complain about forgetfulness and concentration deficits although there is no evidence of cognitivne disorders. Cognitive deficits in depression are sometimes so pronounced that they affect social or working effectiveness or impair activities of daily living. Depression is also common in dementia, especially in its early stages.
