Abstract     The life expectancies for the female and male populations of Slovenia are expected to have risen to 773 and 69.5 years respectively by the year 2000, whereas in more advanced countries both sexes can be expected to live 80 years. Slovenia is believed to have more than 300.000 people exceeding the age of 65 years by 2020. The author regards these facts alarming and deems it necessary to think in advance about the question of how such a number of old people will be taken care of in future. She believes they will be able to live full and independent lives in their homes only by being enusred planned and organized forms of home care.
