Abstract     Our study sugested marked contamination of patient's environment and staff hands with enteric viruses. With indirect enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA), monoclonal antibodies against rotavirus A and against adenovirus 40/41, and analyse with electron microscopy (EM) we detected enteral viruses, mostly rotavirus A in children hospitalised with viral gastroenteritis, from environmental samples of potentially contaminated surfaces in 38,2%, on staff hands from 12% to 45% and in washout samples from gloves in 72,7%. The study of latex gloves permeability confirmed that rotaviruses are able to pass through some types of gloves within 5 minutes of use. On paediatric wards rather than fecal-oral transmission, contaminated staff hands and environmental surfaces especially in correlation with bad hand hygiene indicates the role of it in spread of rotavirus and high frequency of nosocominal infections. 84% alchocol with 1% gycerol was highly effective for hand disinfection.
